RWE Signs Renewable Energy Agreement with Rivian to Power Adventure Network and Expand Wind Project

(IN BRIEF) RWE has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Rivian to supply its Adventure Network with renewable energy from the repowered Champion Wind farm in Texas. This 127 MW wind project, currently undergoing upgrades, will help Rivian achieve its goal of 7 billion miles of carbon-free driving. As part of its sustainability initiatives, RWE is partnering with REGEN Fiber to recycle old turbine blades into materials for construction, enhancing the circular economy. The project will also bring an estimated $31 million in tax revenue over 20 years to local Texas communities, supporting schools and essential services.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 1-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE, a leading renewable energy provider in the U.S., has announced a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian. Through this agreement, electricity from RWE’s upgraded Champion Wind farm in West Texas will supply Rivian’s Adventure Network with 100% renewable energy, advancing Rivian’s mission to support 7 billion miles of carbon-free driving. Currently undergoing repowering, the Champion Wind project will receive new turbines, nacelles, and blades, enhancing its operational lifespan and energy output.

The repowered Champion Wind, expected to be operational by mid-2025, will have a capacity of 127 MW, enough to power approximately 1 billion miles of renewable driving annually, or the equivalent of 36,000 Texas homes. As part of its sustainability efforts, RWE has partnered with REGEN Fiber to recycle the decommissioned blades, transforming them into reinforcement fibers for concrete and asphalt, supporting a circular economy.

The project also provides significant benefits for the local communities of Mitchell and Nolan Counties, generating an estimated $31 million in tax revenue over the next 20 years, supporting schools, emergency services, and other essential services.
