(PRESS RELEASE) LEIDEN, 19-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — IKEA and VINÇON have joined forces to celebrate the legacy of design with a new exhibition at Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHUB), which runs until February 23, 2025. This exhibition, titled “100 IKEA Objects We Would Have Liked to Have Had in VINÇON”, is based on an idea from Fernando Amat, founder of VINÇON, who selected 100 IKEA products he wished could have been part of his iconic Barcelona store. The exhibition showcases the shared vision of both brands to democratize design by making quality, functional, and affordable products accessible to all.

Curated by architect and designer Juli Capella, the exhibition highlights the evolution of design and its role in improving everyday life. Amat’s product selection followed a visit to the IKEA Museum in Sweden and IKEA stores, where he focused on key aspects such as aesthetics, functionality, price, and instinct. In addition to the product displays, the exhibition offers a comparative analysis of the two brands, reflecting on their different approaches to democratizing design.

IKEA’s Democratic Design philosophy, which aims to provide affordable and sustainable solutions for the many, takes center stage in this collaboration. Belén Frau, Global Communication Manager of Ingka Group and former CEO of IKEA Ibérica, expressed her excitement: “This exhibition demonstrates how IKEA’s Democratic Design philosophy makes high-quality, sustainable design accessible to everyone. It showcases our commitment to creating affordable solutions that enhance daily life.”

The exhibition explores the histories of both IKEA and VINÇON, their founders Ingvar Kamprad and Fernando Amat, and how their distinct approaches have contributed to the democratization of design. It also delves into topics like branding, communication, and the architecture of their stores, revealing the differences and shared values of these two influential design giants.
