German Researchers Advance 6G Technology with Focus on Security, Digital Twins, and Telediagnostics

The research aims to ensure that Germany takes a leading role in the 6G landscape, prioritizing faster communication, enhanced privacy, and sustainability, while maintaining digital sovereignty with components sourced from German startups.

(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 18-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Cutting-edge research into the upcoming 6G mobile communications standard is advancing rapidly, with key initiatives being spearheaded by teams from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and TU Dresden. The 6G-life and 6G Future Lab Bavaria projects are working on fundamental advancements to ensure Germany leads in this field, aiming to make 6G networks commercially available by 2030. This next-generation technology will underpin critical applications, such as nursing care robots, autonomous vehicles, and industrial digital twins, and is designed to offer faster communication, higher security, and improved sustainability compared to the current 5G standard.

The overarching goal of these initiatives is to ensure that future communication networks are built with digital sovereignty, meaning they are independent of external manufacturers, thus keeping critical infrastructure within Germany’s control.
