(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 12-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF has published the second edition of its Responsible Sourcing Report (RSR), showcasing its 2023 achievements in sustainability across economic, environmental, and social dimensions. The report underscores BASF’s ongoing efforts to support smallholder farmers and promote sustainable practices in its Care Chemicals division. This includes sourcing 96% of its palm oil from RSPO-certified mills and expanding the use of Sustainable Certified Coconut Oil (SCNO) and certified castor oil through initiatives like the Pragati project.

A key highlight of 2023 is BASF’s expanded partnership with the global civil society organization Solidaridad, aimed at improving the livelihoods of smallholder palm oil farmers in Indonesia and Malaysia. The collaboration focuses on building resilient production systems and preparing farmers for certification, with special attention on training female farmers to enhance inclusivity in the sector.

The report also provides an update on BASF’s Responsibly Active Program, which focuses on strengthening the botanical supply chain. As part of this initiative, 90% of BASF’s bioactives unit’s raw materials are now bio-based, and 58% of its botanicals come from sustainable sources. BASF is committed to advancing these efforts to foster a sustainable future.
