University of York Celebrates Tenth Anniversary of YorkTalks Research Showcase with Engaging Topics

(IN BRIEF) The University of York is hosting its tenth annual YorkTalks research showcase, featuring experts delivering free short talks on a variety of subjects, including the future of local pubs, artificial intelligence ethics, and the role of spirituality in popular music. The event, scheduled for January 10, 2024, highlights the impact of York’s research on daily life and covers topics from language barriers in healthcare to county lines drug networks. Attendees can choose from sixteen sessions throughout the day and also participate in the PhD Research Spotlight Competition, where research students will showcase their work and answer questions.

(PRESS RELEASE) YORK, 4-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The University will host YorkTalks, with experts delivering free short talks on research across a range of topics, including the ‘death’ of the pub, the ethics of artificial intelligence, and spirituality in popular music.

The event, which includes sixteen talks throughout the day, grouped into four sessions, will take place on Wednesday, 10 January at the Piazza Building at the University’s Campus East.

2024 marks the tenth anniversary of the popular research showcase and focuses on the impact that York research has on different elements of daily life, in the past, present, and future.

Highlights include how the ‘local pub’ faces a fight for survival and the ways in which communities can help them to evolve and flourish again. Other topics include unlocking the language barrier between scientists and doctors, rethinking schizophrenia, the impact of county lines drug networks, and the ethics of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

Spotlight

Research students will also be showcasing their work throughout the day in the PhD Research Spotlight Competition. They will be on hand at their exhibitions to answer any questions that attendees have.
