(PRESS RELEASE) MILAN, 28-Nov-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Webuild SpA (BIT: WBD), a global player specialized in the construction of complex infrastructure, announces that its commitment to workplace safety, process efficiency, and sustainability as a response to the global energy transition was highlighted by General Manager Massimo Ferrari during his address at the opening ceremony of the “Sustainability and Green Management” Master’s program organized by RCS Academy Business School.

Webuild’s remarkable growth and international presence across 50 countries, with 85,000 employees, including direct and third-party personnel, have enabled the company to structure an ongoing innovation process. This process extends to acquired smaller companies and the entire supply chain, fostering global competitiveness. Leveraging artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies in the infrastructure sector, the company has achieved outstanding results, particularly in enhancing the safety of construction sites.

Over the period from 2020 to 2022, Webuild Group dedicated 1.4 million hours to safety training, benefiting both its own workforce and third-party employees. This extensive training initiative has contributed to cultivating a culture of safety that extends to smaller suppliers within the supply chain.

Massimo Ferrari explained, “Webuild, thanks to a focused strategy, has established itself in recent years, as an international leader in the infrastructure sector, with a presence in 50 countries, 85,000 employees (including direct and third-party personnel), and a 1.3 percent share in the Italian market, well below what our competitors recorded in their domestic markets. We operate in a global market that has grown nearly 10 percent between 2019 to 2023. Despite the pandemic and the geopolitical crises, the sector has grown significantly. It has, in fact, almost doubled the +5% mark achieved in the 2014-2018 period, driving the energy transition. The global dimension reached by the Group allows us to develop efficiencies that, thanks in part to technological innovation, open new opportunities, both in terms of margins and cash generation, and in terms of competitiveness and entry into new segments, such as building complex data centers throughout Europe. We often invest in low-cost, but high-performance technologies created with small-to-medium-sized partners. We are increasingly using artificial intelligence and other technologies in many processes such as counterparty evaluation and due diligence operations. But our biggest investments are focused on ensuring the safety of the people who work with us and our partners’.”

The global reach of Webuild Group empowers the company to develop efficiencies, partly driven by technological innovations. These innovations have opened new opportunities in terms of profitability, cash generation, competitiveness, and entry into new segments. One such example is the construction of complex data centers across Europe. The company frequently collaborates with small-to-medium-sized partners to invest in cost-effective, high-performance technologies. Moreover, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies are increasingly integrated into various processes, including counterparty evaluation and due diligence operations.

Ferrari stressed, “Today, public and private clients pay an increased attention to the results achieved on the basis of the qualitative and quantitative indicators guided by sustainability criteria, which therefore become a competitive factor for participating in tenders, as well as an evaluation element used by banks and financial analysts. We are witnessing a rising expectation on the effort to reaching the net zero goal, making a tangible contribution to the decarbonization process, in addition to the challenge to achieving the zero accidents at work goal.”

Massimo Ferrari also serves as a member of the Scientific Committee for the Master’s program, further demonstrating Webuild’s dedication to sustainability and green management in the infrastructure sector.

Webuild is a global leader in the design and construction of large, complex projects in the sectors of sustainable mobility (rail, metro, bridges, roads, ports), hydropower (dams, power plants), water (treatment and desalination plants, wastewater management, irrigation dams) and green buildings (civil and industrial buildings, airports, stadiums, hospitals).
