6,000 customers already connected to the tiko Swiss storage network, one of the largest smart grids in the world

BERNE, 23-9-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Residential customers who participate in the tiko smart storage network enjoy real benefits. With the help of an app, they are able to optimise their own electrical energy consumption, improve their energy efficiency and reduce their power usage in a convenient manner via their PC, tablet or smartphone. More than 6,000 customers are already connected to the tiko Swiss storage network, one of the largest smart grids in the world. Using cloud and machine-to-machine technologies, tiko provides the ability to manage the grid in real time. Swisscom Energy Solutions’ tiko, a joint venture between Swisscom and Repower, thus provides a simple and effective response to fluctuations in the electrical network.

New partnerships in Ticino
In order to optimise the Swiss electrical network with tiko on a sustainable basis, Swisscom Energy Solutions cooperates with partners from the energy industry as well as heating system manufacturers. The latest partners are the Ticino-based energy suppliers AIL SA (Aziende Industriali di Lugano), AMB (Aziende Municipalizzate Bellinzona) and SES SA (Società Elettrica Sopracenerina). The three energy suppliers have already founded the joint venture Enerti SA, headquartered in Rivera, with the objective of developing new offers. Thanks to the partnership with Swisscom Energy Solutions, the Ticino-based energy suppliers will be able to further pursue their strategy and offer their customers new services. With tiko and the associated app, customers have a convenient means for observing and optimising their electrical energy consumption. They also benefit from potential energy savings, a clear overview of their heating consumption and are notified via SMS or e-mail if their heating systems malfunction. This is beneficial for everybody involved: “The proportion of electronically operated heating systems, i.e. heat pumps, night storage heaters and direct heating, is particularly high in Ticino. A partnership with the Ticino-based energy suppliers is therefore especially interesting for Swisscom Energy Solutions, and we are able to offer our customers a greater level of service”, says Marco Bigatto, Chairman of Enerti SA.

Within the framework of the partnership, further innovative offers are to be developed together and offered to customers in Ticino in future.

tiko is a flagship project of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, is available throughout Switzerland and can be used regardless of the heating system manufacturer and telecommunications provider.
