2013 Deutsche Bank Championship to raise awareness and show support for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings

The Labor Day weekend FedExCup playoff event has designated Monday as ‘Boston Strong Day’

29-8-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship in cooperation with EMC is working to raise awareness and show support for those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings. Through a number of initiatives throughout the week-long Championship, held August 28 – September 2 at TPC Boston, spectators as well as the PGA TOUR professionals will have the opportunity to donate to the One Fund Boston and help raise awareness for the victims and their families.

“We are inspired by the resilience of the city of Boston and its residents,” said Jacques Brand, Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Bank North America and Member of the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank. “We are especially proud that through the Deutsche Bank Championship we can further support One Fund Boston and build awareness for this important initiative.”

“Our thoughts and prayers have been with everyone affected by this tragedy,” Championship Director Eric Baldwin said. “We are proud the Deutsche Bank Championship is part of this strong community and we are excited to help raise funds and provide support to those involved.”

Monday, September 2, has officially been designated Boston Strong Day, and spectators will be encouraged to wear their blue and gold to show their support. Boston Strong bracelets will be available for $3 in the merchandise tent and additional areas around the course. All proceeds will benefit One Fund Boston, an organization formed to assist victims and families affected by the events at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013.

Fans, players, and sponsors attending the Championship can stop by Kids Village during the week and show their support by participating in America 4 Boston’s Prayer Canvas, a large canvas, sectioned into squares, that allows individuals to write a prayer, a name, a word, symbol or paint a picture in honor of the victims and survivors. Designed to show America’s unity and humanity, the Prayer Canvas is travelling the US from May 2013 to February 2014, making a stop at TPC Boston during Championship week, collecting well-wishes from the public which will be presented to the city of Boston on the one year anniversary of the bombing.

In addition, the Championship will distribute blue and gold ribbons to the 100 PGA TOUR professionals competing in the second event of the FedExCup Playoffs. The ribbons will also be given to caddies, sponsors and staff to wear throughout the week-long event. The victims and their families will be given two complimentary grounds tickets to come out for Boston Strong Day to watch the final round of the 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship.

Also onsite on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., Golfsmith International and Spaulding Adaptive Golf Program have partnered with the Deutsche Bank Championship to provide head to toe Nike Golf apparel, a golf bag, and custom fit golf clubs to a number of survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing and others who have suffered severe physical injuries. During a special presentation at the Golfsmith Swing Zone, located in Spectator Commons behind the 18th green, each of the five representatives will be recognized and presented with golf clubs, apparel and gear so they can make further strides in their recovery through golf.
