Virgin Media pay TV first in UK to offer video gaming channel Ginx TV

12-7-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Virgin Media, the UK’s leading communications and entertainment company, has added the world’s only international television channel dedicated to video gaming culture to its TV platform.

Virgin Media pay TV customers can now watch Ginx TV’s 12 gaming oriented series including its flagship show, The Blurb; Planet of the Apps which looks at mobile gaming; and The Ginx TV Vault which covers retro games. The channel also boasts shows dedicated to sports, role-play and racing genres amongst others. All the programmes are produced in the UK and available to Virgin TV customers on channel 286.

Nick Forward, director of TV at Virgin Media, said: “We’re pleased to be the first in the UK to launch Ginx TV. Gaming is an important part of life for many of our superfast broadband and TV customers, so we’re sure that Ginx TV will go down a storm – it’s great to get quality video game shows back on the TV schedule.”

Ginx TV CEO, Michiel Bakker commented: “We are over the moon to be launching Ginx TV with Virgin Media in our home market. The UK is the fifth largest video gaming market in the world. One in three people describe themselves as gamers and half of UK households have at least one console. Video-gaming is now a massively mainstream leisure activity and it is fantastic that we are able to bring our full channel to TV screens in the UK for the first time. Our shows highlight the latest games and provide news, reviews and behind the scenes insights for fans of videogames. We hope they resonate with our new UK viewers.”

Recently launching in Poland, the Netherlands, Romania, Croatia and the Middle East, Ginx TV is growing its presence across the globe. Fully localised in over 40 territories and nine languages, Ginx TV is produced in the UK and focuses on all forms of video gaming from console and PC, mobile games and apps, as well as reporting from major video gaming events such as E3 and Gamescom, as well as the Virgin Media sponsored Eurogamer Expo.
