University of Twente now part of Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE3) consortium

Enschede, Netherlands, 26-Jan-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — In mid-January 2016, the University of Twente was admitted to the Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE3), a global consortium of seventy leading technical universities. This will enable the University of Twente to exchange students with these institutions. There is a great deal of interest in exchange agreements with American institutions in particular. This is now an option for University of Twente students.

The signing of this contract also contributes to university’s goal of training students to become Global Citizens, as stated in the university’s vision for internationalization. The university asks its students to complete part of their University of Twente educational programme abroad. GE3 exchange contracts targeted at science, technology and engineering students make it possible for course credits obtained abroad to be accredited in their own university’s educational programme and degree certificate.

The major institutions participating in GE3 include Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Technische Universität München, RWTH Aachen University, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and dozens of US universities.

Until now, TU Delft has been the only Dutch member of GE3. The University of Twente is a valuable partner in the consortium because it is so closely aligned with GE3’s profile: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. This is reflected by the group of institutions that make up the consortium, which include 16 of the University of Twente’s current exchange partners.

Just like any other exchange student at the university, incoming exchange students from the consortium are free to study the subjects of their choice, provided they have been admitted to the educational programmes in question. Students coming to the University of Twente under the terms of this exchange contract can choose from the entire range of courses taught in English that are available at this university. In all, there are approximately 1.000 subjects, as well as the High Tech Human Touch Bachelor’s and Master’s modules that the university has developed, partly with incoming exchange students in mind. These exchanges will take place from 1 January 2017 onwards, with University of Twente students from Advanced Technology and Creative Technology leading the way. There is potential for expanding these activities on an annual basis.

The University of Twente’s admission to the consortium will be formally ratified on 25 January 2016, in a Memorandum of Understanding.
