UK’s largest supplier of building materials Travis Perkins recognised with Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver award

Northampton, UK, 08-Aug-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Travis Perkins Plc, the UK’s largest supplier of building materials to the construction, DIY and home improvement markets, has been recognised for their work supporting the Armed Forces with a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver award.

The accolade, which is awarded to companies that are making a demonstrable effort to support, recruit and develop armed forces personnel, was bestowed to Travis Perkins for their commitment to supporting the Armed Forces.

Travis Perkins have actively recruited 200 service leavers since 2015 in roles spanning branch management, IT and supply chain and logistics. Travis Perkins also became the 1,500th signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant in March 2017.

Travis Perkins also offer Reservists flexibility to complete military training, including additional leave training, and have an established recruitment programme consisting of company open days, online CV clinics and a strong relationship with the Ministry of Defence’sCareers Transition Partnership (CTP) who help place service leavers into roles.

Details on the ERS Silver award

Silver award holders:

  • demonstrate support for service personnel issues and employ at least one member of the armed forces community
  • actively communicate and uphold a positive stance to their employees via established HR policies and procedures
  • show flexibility towards annual training commitments and mobilisation of reservist employees and support the employment of cadet instructors, armed forces veterans (including wounded, injured and sick) and military spouses/partners
  • collect their certificate at a regional silver awards ceremony, receive silver logos to display and are themselves displayed on the list of Employer Recognition Scheme award winners
  • must be nominated for a silver award by a third party using the online nomination form
    are required to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and employ at least one individual from the covenant category that the nomination emphasises
