TÜV Rheinland launches new service for monitor manufacturers

JAPAN, 21-10-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — TÜV Rheinland has launched a new service for monitor manufacturers that features a new criterion it has created for the quality and performance of monitors for the graphics market that require accurate color reproduction. Now, manufacturers of monitors that have obtained Color Accuracy certification will be able to promote the color reproduction accuracy of their monitors to professional users.

The following four points are the major requirements of the new criterion:
– Accurate color display including verification of the sRGB and Adobe RGB present modes
-Color stability when the monitor is in use
-Brightness and uniformity
-Minimal color shift when the screen is viewed from an angle

In addition, if a monitor meets the requirements for stable color shortly after being powered on then it is also added “Quick Stability” grade.

In recent years, the graphics market has seen the widespread use of digital workflows in which content is produced by checking their colors on monitors. These digital workflows are applied within photography, design, printing, and post production.

In the printing industry, printing associations developed a standard for selecting the optimal monitor based on the workflow. However, there were no monitor-related standards in industries such as photography, design, and post production. The absence of standards meant that professionals in these industries did not have any criteria from an independent third party to refer to when determining the accuracy of color reproduction.

Applying this criterion, TÜV Rheinland tested four models of the ColorEdge series of graphic monitors from EIZO Corporation, and on October 13, issued certification indicating that the monitors satisfy the requirements of the new criterion. The EIZO monitors are the first in the world to receive this certification.

Holger Kunz, President & CEO Executive Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Asia-Pacific: “We are pleased to issue our first certification of Color Accuracy to the industry leading company, Monitors that have obtained Color Accuracy certification fulfill comprehensive requirements expected in the high-end graphics market: therefore we are confident this certification will deliver additional value to professionals. We would like to express our special gratitude to EIZO team for supporting us by providing monitors and information for comparative testing in order to set the Color Accuracy criterion.”
