• Extra coaches planned on megabus.com routes to London, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff

• Customers can book coach travel at www.megabus.com and www.citylink.co.uk

PERTH, UK, 19-5-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — Transport group Stagecoach today (18 May 2015) announced plans to keep Britain on the move and help passengers affected by a planned national rail strike.

There is likely to be severe disruption to rail services on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 May as a result of industrial action announced by rail unions the RMT and TSSA involving Network Rail staff.

Stagecoach, one of the UK’s biggest transport groups, has drawn up plans for a package of extra coach services. These include:

• Leading low-fares coach operator megabus.com, which covers around 100 destinations in the UK, is sourcing extra vehicles at a number of locations to meet the anticipated increased demand. Extra coaches are planned if required for routes in and out of London, Manchester, Leeds and Cardiff. Tickets can be booked at www.megabus.com
• North of the Border, coach operator Scottish Citylink has plans to add capacity through extra vehicles on routes covering Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Perth. Customers can book travel at www.citylink.co.uk.

megabus.com has seen strong demand for its services on the days of the planned strike action and is already making arrangements for extra vehicles to be added to its network.

Edward Hodgson, Managing Director of megabus.com and Scottish Citylink, said: “Everyone hopes this dispute can be resolved. But if the planned strike goes ahead, we are ready to get passengers to their destinations, and buses and coaches will have a vital role to play in keeping Britain moving.

“We know that people are looking for other modes of transport to get where they want to be and our extensive network covers key locations across the country.

“We are organising more coaches and more seats in the places where we expect there will be some of the biggest demand for alternative, high quality transport. We have already seen an increase in bookings for Monday compared to previous bank holidays and in the days ahead, we will continue to monitor demand and provide further additional transport options where we can.”
