SGS to provide supply chain services for power generation projects planned in the Philippines for FDC Misamis Power Corporation

Makati City, Philippines, 18-4-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — In February 2014, FDC Misamis Power Corporation ordered SGS supply chain services for power generation projects planned in the Philippines. The three-year project, running from March 2014 until February 2017 marks the first collaboration between the two. 41 rotating project inspectors, 2 coordinators and a project manager have been named by SGS-CSTC, China.

FDC UTILITIES AND MISAMIS POWER

FDC Utilities, Incorporated (FDCUI) is wholly-owned by Filinvest Development Corporation. Active in the power market, FDC Utilities is planning and executing multiple power generation projects across the Philippines.

FDC Misamis Power Corporation is a subsidiary of FDC Utilities, Incorporated. Because of its commitment to securing continued socio-economic growth in the Philippines, FDCUI uses only the latest in clean-fuel technology for its Misamis Power projects.

FDC Misamis selected SGS to provide critical supply chain services due to the SGS reputation for excellence in the Philippines for providing power plants quality assurance and quality control services and SGS respect of the local 60Hz equipment requirement. SGS is currently serving the Calaca 2x150MW, Semirara 15MW, Puting-Bato 1x135MW and Therma South power plants with QA and QC inspections.

SGS SUPPLY CHAIN SCOPE FOR FDC PHILIPPINES PROJECT

Supply chain services to be provided include raw materials inspections, inspection for boiler and steel structures as well as vendor assessment and spot inspections for critical equipment and components being fabricated in China, witness inspection of FAT and final inspections. All inspection work will be carried out on-site, directly on factory premises. Inspection related testing methods used will include thickness determination, noise level monitoring, coating inspection, temperature readings and more.

For the Philippines project, SGS is conducting strict surveillance and monitoring of critical power plant equipment fabrication in order to assure FDC project leaders that specified industry codes and schedules have been respected and all equipment is compliant.

SGS is also providing loading supervision and pre-shipment inspection services to make sure FDC cargo is handled according to contracts and is properly monitored to reduce risk of damage. Extensive SGS experience in the region as well as the SGS accreditation through the China Export Inspection Body and the Philippine Bureau of Customs bulk and break-bulk contract guarantee smooth passage through Philippine ports.

SUPERIOR GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN SERVICES

Because vendors and suppliers directly influence the quality of products, it is imperative to make sure that project partner processes meet all statutory standards and regulations. Vendors and suppliers are often located far from the actual project site, making verification difficult. SGS independent vendor assessment and technical audit services are carried out all over the world, ensuring vendors and suppliers provide the mandated level of quality.

SGS supplier related services range from single audits and inspections to complete vendor appraisals and control schemes to ensure products and services fulfill all necessary quality standards and requirements.

SGS is pleased to have been chosen to participate in this project assisting FDC in the commitment to clean coal technology and environmentally-responsible operations while helping ensure reliable and cost-effective power supply to the region.
