GENEVA, 21-Sep-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — 9 concerts in 9 days, headlined by five radio orchestras: that’s the exciting premise of RadiRo. This festival organized every two years by Radio Romania since 2012, the largest international event of its kind to feature radio music ensembles, will take place at Bucharest’s Romanian Radio Hall from 23 September to 1 October. 6 of the 9 concerts will be available to Euroradio Members via MUS (SM/16/07/32/01-06).

The young Chinese pianist Zhang Zuo and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, making its first appearance in Bucharest, will open the festival, which will conclude nine days later with a performance by the BBC Concert Orchestra under Barry Wordsworth.

Other highlights will include the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra from EBU German Member MDR, led by RadiRo’s Honorary Director, Kristjan Järvi (pictured), and the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra, known for its annual appearances at the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo. Maestro Järvi notes: “RadiRo is a unique opportunity to enjoy the best radio ensembles from across the world. Radio Romania is demonstrating what can be achieved in the field of music by public service media.”

Of special interest is the exceptional participation of the legendary Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer, who will be accompanied by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in the rarely played Violin Concertoby Mieczyslaw Weinberg. This concert will be broadcast live on 28 September as part of the 2016-2017 Euroradio Season.

Romanian Radio’s in-house orchestra will, of course, be front and centre, with two concerts on 26 and 30 September, showcasing respectively the violinist Alexandru Tomescu and the cellist Razvan Suma.

The complete RadiRo programme can be found here.
