MAN granted immunity as key witness in EU Commission’s cartel case against five major European truck manufacturers

Fines for European truck manufacturers — MAN granted immunity as key witness

MUNICH, 20-Jul-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Today (2016-07-19), the European Commission imposed fines of several billion euros against five major European truck manufacturers for their participation in a cartel, since the practices in which they engaged infringed European antitrust law.

Following the suspicion of potential antitrust violations in the commercial vehicles industry between 1997 and 2011, the EU Commission instituted proceedings in 2011; in 2014 it sent MAN and various other major European truck manufacturers the objections in which the EU Commission informed the companies about the charges leveled against them.

Five companies admitted to participating in a cartel and agreed to a settlement.

MAN received immunity from an approximately €1 billion fine acting as key witness by informing the Commission of the cartel.

The MAN Code of Conduct includes a clear belief in free and fair competition. The Company does not tolerate any unfair business practices or illegal conduct.
