Vienna/Berlin, 14-Sep-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — At InnoTrans 2016 – the international trade fair for transport technology – Kapsch CarrierCom will present its Railway Dedicated Networks (RDN) portfolio as well as its latest smart solutions for public transport operators (PTO). In both segments, the leading global producer, supplier and systems integrator of telematics and mission-critical telecoms solutions will share best practices and showcase its new portfolio.

“Future orientation plays an extremely important role in our business. This is why we also put a strong focus on research and development, investing more than 41,2 million Euro per year at nine research sites. We are proud to present the fruits of our extensive work at this top event”, says Dr. Kari Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch CarrierCom. Kapsch CarrierCom’s solutions for railway and public industries facilitate operators to master the demands of complex transportation networks of today and the future. Innovative solutions like the new mobi.mobile app suite, consolidated under the brand mobi.guider, will be presented at Kapsch’s booth as well as its innovative achievements towards the future of IP-based railway communication, including the SIP-based Functional Addressing call.

Railways: Railway Dedicated Networks (RDN) portfolio for the next generation

Kapsch CarrierCom has created an innovative RDN portfolio, which supports the full range of railway voice and data connectivity. At InnoTrans Kapsch will also present demos of its achievements towards the future of IP-based railway communication, including the SIP-based Functional Addressing call shown in its Vienna lab for the first time in spring 2016. The call is part of the aimed transition of the GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway) core systems to IP-based systems and reflects Kapsch’s Next Generation Strategy.

Jochen Nowotny, Vice President Product Line Management and Research & Development at Kapsch CarrierCom about the recent achievements: “As a member of the European SHIFT²RAIL research initiative, we are responsible for carrying out the analysis, specification and implementation of a prototype for a future communication system emergency call under the Innovation Programme 2. We actively contribute towards creating standards in train radio technology and play an important role in international organisations and European standardization committees.”

Public Transport: Smart solutions to improve efficiency, safety and the passenger experience

Kapsch lists some of the most innovative recent solutions under the mobi.guider portfolio. This also includes its latest smartphone applications: “Ride Now” and the “Ticket Store” that form part of the mobi.mobile app suite, targeting mobile ticketing, passenger information and various PTO business models. “Thanks to a user-demand driven app development, the micro apps provide content that is tailored to the needs of various passenger types and enables PTO to cherry pick apps from the app-suite”, explains Thomas Schöpf, COO Kapsch CarrierCom.

Also part of the mobi.guider portfolio and shown at InnoTrans are mobi.ticketing (AFC), mobi.operations (ITCS), mobi.information systems (RTPI) and cloud-based, end-to-end network mobi.efficiency solutions for smart infrastructure.

Addressing the future broadband demands of the global public transport market and the need for secure and reliable voice and data services, Kapsch provides critical communications networks for public transport based on the Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) and DMR standard. One example of the high efficiency of Kapsch’s radio network is the metro line 4 in Rio de Janeiro, which enabled hundreds of thousands of sports fans to reach their destinations safely during the Olympic Games in August 2016. Interested visitors get to know more about the project at Kapsch’s booth.

Cybersecurity

Security is a major focus area for Kapsch CarrierCom too. Besides ensuring that physical infrastructure is secure, systems and data must be protected from online threats. At Kapsch’s booth, visitors have the possibility to make a Security Self-Test. The test contains questions concerning the knowledge about cyber security as well as about possible measures against cybercrimes.
