At an international freight car auto show COMTRANS-2013 KAMAZ and Intel corporation presented a prototype of an on-board informational and entertaining system with a processor IntelAtom, developed by Intel for the trucks KAMAZ-5490.

KAMAZ-5490 displayed at this auto show is the latest novelty within the family of cargo KAMAZ vehicles designed for transportations with the full weight up to 44 tons as part of road train. It is equipped with a prototype of informational entertainment system with a processor IntelAtom, as it is reported by portal ixbt.com.

The software is adapted for the Russian market. An on-board computer contains an integrated navigation system which provides information about traffic jams; it has radio and telephone applications, calendar, Internet browser, an application for social networking, as well as voice control.

According to General Director of KAMAZ Sergey Kogogin, the equipment of new vehicles with on-board information system will be timely.

Sergey Kogogin said, “We always strive for the best, and it is evident that our collaboration with Intel is a big step in this direction. No other Russian automaker may show that their trucks have a similar intellectual system in their vehicles, which literally converts KAMAZ into a “smart” car”.

Kogogin has also noted that KAMAZ has traditionally been viewed as a company, the locomotive of the entire industry. That’s why with the help of Intel KAMAZ will be able to keep the high standard.

The head of IntelSoftware, Igor Kaloshin, observed, “Intel is working actively with automakers all around the world helping to integrate advanced technologies in informational and entertainment systems for the vehicles.”

A prototype of the complex is made on basis of the latest dual-core processor developed for embedded systems IntelAtom and the open source operating system compatible with OS Tizen. For the aim of satellite positioning the prototype uses a hybrid chip GPS / GLONASS, and the information from all the sensors of the vehicle can be received in real time by means of CAN bus.

The system is made in 1DIN form factor and it is designed to be located at the top of the cabin; a 7-inch touch screen is supposed to be located on the front panel. The system can be operated by voice, touch, system control buttons, as well as by using “fast keys” made ​​on the steering wheel.
