Egis signs €12M systems engineering contract for the construction of Salvador metro, Brazil

Guyancourt, France, 8-1-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — Egis has concluded a €12 M engineering contract with the build-and-operate concession holder CCR (Companhia de Concessões Rodoviárias) for the commercial construction of the metro in Salvador, the state capital of Bahia, Brazil. This contract covers systems management and integration, as well as interface management between subsystems and civil engineering.

The World Cup metro
The Salvador metro project comprises the completion of line 1 (nearly 7 km, partly underground), the construction of 5 km of extensions to this first line and the entire construction of a 24km-line 2, serving Salvador’s international Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães airport.

Revenue service on the first stretch of line 1 (5 stations) is scheduled for June 2014 in time for the FIFA World Cup. Its construction and system installation are already at an advanced stage. Revenue service on line 2 is planned to start up in spring 2017.

The concession contract between the consortium controlled by the Brazilian investor CCR and the state of Bahia had been signed on 15th October 2013 and provides for the construction of the city’s metro and a 30-year operating lease.

A major contract for Egis in Brazil
This engineering contract awarded to Egis is the largest in the history of Vega, the Brazilian engineering firm acquired by Egis in 2011, specialising in rail freight and based in Curitiba (Paraná State). The project will require the mobilisation of around 20 Egis employees, including four expatriates, based in Salvador for a duration of 40 months. Egis will work on this project with MCA, a Brazilian subcontractor specialising in project management.

This first major diversification project in passenger transport comes as an endorsement of the pertinence of Egis’ development strategy in Brazil.
