(PRESS RELEASE) AMERSFOORT, 11-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — In 2023, FrieslandCampina member dairy farmers demonstrated significant strides towards enhancing the sustainability of their operations, culminating in a total payout of over 245 million euros in premiums for their sustainability achievements. These premiums, averaging at 2.63 euros per 100 kilograms of farm milk, are a testament to the cooperative’s commitment to incentivizing and rewarding sustainable practices among its members.

Cor Hoogeveen, Executive Board member of Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina U.A., elaborated on the implementation of the ‘Foqus planet Sustainable development’ incentive system, designed to provide clarity and transparency regarding the financial returns for specific sustainability outcomes. This initiative empowers dairy farmers to select sustainability measures aligned with their individual farming practices, thereby leveraging the diversity within the cooperative for optimal sustainability gains.

Mireille Einwachter, Chief Sustainability Officer at Royal FrieslandCampina N.V., highlighted the growing importance of sustainability in the dairy industry, with an increasing number of customers setting specific climate goals. The Foqus planet system enables FrieslandCampina to transparently demonstrate its sustainability performance, fostering partnerships with customers committed to shared sustainability objectives.

The Foqus planet Sustainable development program rewards results across nine sustainability indicators, with a particular emphasis on climate initiatives.

FrieslandCampina supports its members through climate workshops and innovative tools like the Measures tool, facilitating the implementation of impactful sustainability measures on dairy farms.

Additionally, FrieslandCampina places a premium on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with the highest bonus within the Foqus planet system dedicated to this indicator. As part of the cooperative’s Climate Plan, efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions are integral, with results from 2023 set to be published in July, further reinforcing FrieslandCampina’s commitment to sustainability and transparency.
