Covestro to exhibit LED lighting solutions using polycarbonate sheets at the light+building tradeshow in Frankfurt am Main, March 13 to 18

Covestro products ideal for current trends in architecture

Leverkusen, Germany, 10-Mar-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — Among its exhibits for the light+building tradeshow taking place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from March 13 to 18, 2016, Covestro will be demonstrating modern LED lighting solutions using polycarbonate sheets. One of the top themes this year is “Bright spots in the future: design and function in harmony.” The focus is on how to put things in the right light and provides accents in the architectural area, an application that fits perfectly to Covestro’s polycarbonate sheets for indoor and outdoor LED lighting solutions. No matter whether the product needs to fulfill diffusive, light-reflecting, light-shaping or de-glaring demands to put an individual mark on a room or space, Covestro meets the latest trends in the luminaire market.

In vogue in architecture at the moment are de-glaring office lighting and multiple optical functions. One example is the new Makrolon® SX Shark sheet with its concave linear-shaped prismatic optic on one side and a glossy surface on the other. This geometry combines high light permeability with excellent light guidance to give optimal glare-free light for indoor applications, especially within the office environment.

Putting products into the limelight with polycarbonate sheets
Many luminaire designers are making Makrolon® DX their product of choice. In both indoor and outdoor applications coverings made of this thermoformable material can generate warm or cool color hues as desired. The polycarbonate is adjusted to enable high light diffusion and light transmission. Moreover, the sheets offer increased protection against involuntary breakage and willful destruction due to their high impact strength.

The material also can be formed into a variety of shapes to satisfy creative design needs. Special textures on the material’s surface aid diffusion, provide a matte or glossy appearance or protect against UV radiation, chemicals, wear or scratching. The polycarbonate sheets are obtainable for various fire safety certifications. Special flame-retardant product grades are offered for applications where fire safety is paramount.
