LONDON, 14-Oct-2016 — /EuropaWire/ — The British Safety Council has announced the winners of this year’s Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour awards for the exemplary management of health, safety and environmental risks by businesses around the world. The 64 Sword of Honour and 18 Globe of Honour winning companies have demonstrated to an independent adjudication panel a proven track record of excellence in managing risks to workers’ health and safety and/or to the environment from the organisations’ activities.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I would like to congratulate those winning organisations and their staff for their huge commitment to keeping their workplaces safe and healthy and minimising risks to the environment from their organisations’ day-to-day activities.

“This year’s result has proven that the imperative that that no-one should be injured or made ill at work is increasingly recognised throughout the globe. ‘The best of the best’ performers in health, safety or environmental management, who won the 2016 Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour awards, are at the forefront of achieving safe, healthy and sustainable workplace and business practices.

“The awards process and the final ceremony represent an opportunity to celebrate their success and encourage other organisations everywhere to follow their lead, as we know the business case for good health and safety is strong. The more we can do to promote these awards and learn from the winners, the more we can do to protect both workers and the environment.”

About the awards
The 2016 awards mark the 37th consecutive year that the British Safety Council has awarded the Sword of Honour for health and safety management excellence and the seventh year of awarding the Globe of Honour for excellence in environmental management.

The winners achieved the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s independent Five Star health and safety and/or environmental management audits in the period 1 August 2015 – 31 July 2016.
