BASF to showcase sustainable water treatment solutions dedicated to the desalination industry at World Congress of the International Desalination Association (IDA) in San Diego, Aug 30 – Sep 4, 2015

  • Focus on innovative and efficient solutions to address growing water treatment needs for the desalination industry
  • Connect with BASF experts at booth 1341 and discover the latest product developments and desalination market trends

Ludwigshafen, 21-8-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — At booth 1341, BASF is showcasing its comprehensive range of sustainable water treatment solutions dedicated to the desalination industry at the World Congress of the International Desalination Association (IDA) being held in San Diego, California, USA, August 30 – September 4, 2015.

“We are very excited to connect with the international participants of the IDA World Congress and let them discover how our unique chemical solutions can enhance the performance of desalination plants and protect these high-investment facilities from scale formation and bio-fouling.” says Marcus Fuest, Global Industry Marketing of BASF’s Water Solutions business.

BASF’s Sokalan® RO antiscalant range has no eutrophication effect in water bodies and ensures high environmental standards without compromising on performance. Compatible with all major reverse osmosis membranes, Sokalan®RO antiscalants provide an excellent chemical pre-treatment that controls the scaling and fouling tendency of inorganic salts, metal hydroxides and colloids in reverse osmosis feed water. The superior performance results in reduced membrane fouling and minimized cleaning requirements for reverse osmosis systems.

In addition BASF features the Sokalan® RO-Xpert software that is designed to recommend the most suitable Sokalan®RO antiscalant at an optimized dosage rate for all reverse osmosis applications treating sea and brackish water.

For thermal desalination, the antiscalant Sokalan® PM 15 I sets an industry benchmark and is approved for use in major Multiple Effect Distillation (MED) and Multistage Flash (MSF) thermal seawater desalination plants worldwide. Sokalan® AF is a pure organic, readily biodegradable antifoam that provides excellent foam control for thermal desalination processes at low dosage rates.

The BASF desalination portfolio is complemented with Magnafloc® LT coagulants and flocculants offering advanced pre-treatment performance and excellent residuals treatment in the desalination process.

On the strength of consistently high filtrate quality, inge® ultrafiltration is the ideal technology for pre-treatment of sea water in desalination plants in combination with reverse osmosis or thermal treatment. The extremely small pore and highly stable filters of the Multibore® membranes reliably intercept not only particles, but also microorganisms such as bacteria or even viruses. The highly-efficient ultrafiltration modules allow rapid and easy installation. This makes planning desalination plants much simpler, enabling low-cost installation and operation.

BASF is investing in innovative solutions for the desalination industry and presents its recent developments in the following technical sessions during IDA World Congress 2015:

  • Novel polymeric high-performance antiscalant with excellent iron fouling prevention (IDAWC REF: 51429)
  • Novel, high-performance ultrafiltration membranes for RO pre-treatment applications (IDAWC REF: 51605)
  • Improvement of tube wetting by wetting agents in multiple effect distillers (IDAWC REF: 51526)
