Banco de España announces the appointment of Juan Ayuso Huertas as Director General of Operations, Markets and Payment Systems

MADRID, 04-Jan-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — At its meeting today, the Governing Council of the Banco de España ratified the appointment, made by the Executive Commission also at a meeting held today, of Juan Ayuso Huertas as Director General of Operations, Markets and Payment Systems.

Juan Ayuso (Madrid, 1964) has a PhD in Economics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a master’s degree in Economics from the Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros (CEMFI) and an honours degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

He joined the Banco de España as a senior economist in the Directorate General Economics, Statistics and Research in 1990, after a brief period as a research assistant at the Fundación de Estudios de Economía Aplicada (FEDEA). After holding various intermediate posts, in 2007 he was appointed Director of the Monetary and Financial Studies Department and, in 2015, Director of the Operations Department, a position that he has held to date.

During his career, Juan Ayuso has been a member of the Financial Markets Committee of the OECD, the Research Task Force of the Basel Committee and the Monetary Policy Committee of the European System of Central Banks. He is currently a member of the Market Operations Committee of the European System of Central Banks and of the Markets Committee of the BIS.

He has been an associate lecturer in Financial Economics at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He has published many papers in Spanish and foreign professional journals and has also sat on the editorial board of a number of Spanish journals, such as Moneda y Crédito or the Spanish Review of Financial Economics. He has been a member of the board of the Spanish Finance Association (AEFIN) and of SUERF-The European Money and Finance Forum and is currently a member of the Spanish Financial Markets Association (AMF).
