Alstom signs £200m agreement to re-wire East Coast of Scotland as part of consortium

10-5-2013 — /europawire.eu/ — Alstom’s Stafford Grid business, together with consortium partner Enterprise, has successfully won a framework agreement from Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission plc (SHE Transmission) for a five-year framework deal to supply expertise and equipment to re-wire the East Coast of Scotland.

The work could be worth up to £200m, with Alstom supplying high level engineering, project management and equipment, and Enterprise providing engineering, civil works, installation and commissioning on SHE Transmission’s network between Perth and Peterhead. In addition to the five-year framework, the deal also has an option for a further four years, in yearly tranches of work.

Kevin Marriott, Commercial Vice President at Alstom Grid, said: “This is more good news for our Stafford-based Grid businesses, where we’ll both be supplying the project management and the engineering expertise, as well as the state-of-the-art equipment to modernise what is a relatively ageing network. Coming on the back of other recent contracts – such as for Champa in India and for the DolWin3 offshore wind farm off Germany, this helps demonstrate just how effective our Stafford business is.”

The initial work is likely to be at Rothienorman, Kintore, Alyth, and Peterhead and will see a variety of new substations built.

Alstom currently has around 150 open vacancies in Stafford, and already employs 2,000 people, making it Stafford’s largest employer.

SHE Transmission is responsible for 5,300km of high voltage overhead lines and underground cables serving around 70% of Scotland.
