ABN AMRO’s office in Eindhoven will deploy BMW i3 cars to achieve full CO2-neutrality by 2020

AMSTERDAM, 05-May-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Starting 1 May, ABN AMRO’s office in Eindhoven will deploy BMW i3 cars in pursuit of its ambition to achieve full CO2-neutrality by 2020. The bank has formed a partnership with Amber, a startup company that provides mobility and automotive solutions. The Amber app guarantees ABN AMRO’s people mobility when they need to make business trips. The app uses historical and real-time data to calculate where and when the i3s need to be available.

The historical data are derived from the business trips that ABN AMRO’s people made over a period of several months in their own cars, using GPS trackers installed with the owner’s approval. The information that this yielded allows Amber to predict where, when and how many electric cars are needed to facilitate business travel. Amber’s partner Athlon International supplies the i3s to ABN AMRO. Director Commercial Clients Patrick van Duijnhoven comments, ‘I’m proud that ABN AMRO’s Econic hub in Eindhoven is kicking off our efforts to pursue innovative and sustainable mobility. We’re cutting back both our carbon dioxide emissions and our fleet of cars in Eindhoven, as well as recording significant savings. Amber’s proposition is an excellent match for our mobility needs.’

The launch of Amber Mobility at ABN AMRO Eindhoven is more than simply a convenient and environmentally friendly service that the bank offers its people; it also reflects a new interpretation of mobility as a concept – not just in the Eindhoven region, but in the whole of the Netherlands. Every new company to use Amber Mobility joins a ‘mobility hub’, where companies share a growing fleet of environmentally friendly cars that their people can use for reliable, efficient and affordable business travel.

At the Hannover Messe on 25 April, Amber also announced that it is in the process of developing its own self-driving car to replace the i3. Partners involved in the development of the new vehicle include prominent parties such as TomTom, KPN, TNO, NVIDIA, Microsoft and the municipalities of Eindhoven and Helmond.

CEO and co-founder of Amber Steven Nelemans is excited that ABN AMRO is using Amber Mobility. ‘The bank is leading the way in sustainable business mobility. Thanks to ABN AMRO, we can now expand our initiative faster and ultimately roll it out internationally – at first only for business travel, but in due course for private transport too.’
